New to Jupiter? Start water with the town (561-741-2300), which also starts trash; power with FPL; your Florida license within 30 days; homestead by March 1.

Last checked Oct. 9, 2026. This page is an index: it links our detailed guides and adds the steps they do not cover. Sources include the Town of Jupiter’s start, stop or transfer utility service page, FPL, the Palm Beach County Tax Collector and Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.

Welcome to Jupiter. The town runs your water and its trash contract; FPL supplies power; Palm Beach County handles taxes, car tags and elections; the School District of Palm Beach County runs the schools. Here is the order most new residents work through it.

Who to call

Water and sewer

The Town of Jupiter runs its own water utility. Accounts must be in the property owner’s name, and only owners can start, stop or transfer service, according to the town’s utility service page. Apply through the town’s online customer portal by choosing “Schedule a New Customer Move-In,” or by phone, email or in person at Town Hall, 210 Military Trail. Bring the service address, proof of ownership (a deed, closing statement or property statement) and ID. Requests are typically processed by the next business day.

Trash and recycling

Signing up for town water also signs you up for garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup, billed monthly on the water bill; the residential rate rose to $25.99 a month on Oct. 1. WM delivers your cart; call 772-546-7700. Pickup days, bulk rules and holidays are in our trash and recycling guide.

Power

Florida Power & Light serves Jupiter. Start service online through FPL’s start, stop or move page. Save FPL’s outage line, 1-800-468-8243; see our power outage guide.

Natural gas, internet and TV

Not every Jupiter street has natural gas. Florida Public Utilities, a gas utility serving parts of Palm Beach County, lets you check an address on its service area page.

For internet, two providers publish service pages for Jupiter: Xfinity and AT&T, each with its own move and sign-up steps. To see every provider that reports service at your exact address, use the FCC’s National Broadband Map.

Driver’s license and vehicle

From the Palm Beach County Tax Collector:

  • Get a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of taking a job, starting a trade or enrolling a child in public school in Florida. Bring your current license and the REAL ID documents on the tax collector’s checklist.
  • Title and register your vehicle within 30 days of the same triggers. You need Florida insurance with at least $10,000 in personal injury protection and $10,000 in property damage liability, according to the registration page.
  • In-person service needs a reservation at pbctax.gov/reservations. The closest office to Jupiter is North County, 3185 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens.

Property taxes and homestead

If you bought a home you live in, file for the homestead exemption by March 1. It takes $25,000 off your assessed value for all taxes and up to $25,722 more for non-school taxes (2025 figure), and caps future increases. Our property tax guide covers the town’s new 3.5886-mill rate, the Jupiter Fire Rescue assessment and due dates.

Schools

Find your zoned school with the district’s Find My School map; zones do not follow town limits. Grades, calendars and registration steps are in our schools guide.

Permits and your new house

Planning a fence, pool, new windows or a renovation? Jupiter issues its own permits, and even a single window replacement needs one. Start with our building permits and zoning guide. In a planned unit development, your HOA and the PUD rules may also apply.

Voting

Register or update your address at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov. The next elections are Nov. 3, 2026 (county, state and federal) and March 2028 (town). See our voting guide.

Pets

Palm Beach County requires dogs and cats 4 months and older to be current on rabies vaccines and a county license tag, according to Animal Care and Control, 561-233-1200. Dogs are not allowed in town parks, but Jupiter has a 2.5-mile dog-friendly beach; see our parks and trails guide.

Who to call

Our who to call in town government page lists the council, the town manager, police and code compliance. Storm season runs to Nov. 30; read the hurricane prep guide before your first one, and see getting around Jupiter for roads, transit and the airport.

What this means for you

  • Week one: water (owners), FPL, internet.
  • Within 30 days: Florida driver’s license and vehicle registration.
  • By March 1: homestead, if you own and live in the home.
