Candy safety
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Halloween food safety tips for parents:
- Feed children a light meal before they go, and have them wait to eat treats until an adult checks them at home.
- Do not let children eat anything that is not commercially wrapped. Throw away wrappers with pinholes, tears or an unusual look.
- Check labels for allergens, and skip home-baked treats for a child with a food allergy.
- Remove choking hazards such as gum, peanuts, hard candy and small toys for young children.
